Supreme Court Denies Gurney Appeal

PORTLAND, Maine - The Maine Supreme Court has rejected the appeal of convicted murder Chad Gurney and ruled he was criminally responsible when he killed his girlfriend Zoe Sarnacki in Portland in May of 2009.

Gurney was found guilty and sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder last year, but his attorney argued that his client was delusional at the time of the killing and couldn't tell right from wrong.  Prosecutors contended that Gurney knew what he was doing when he killed Sarnacki.

The court said in its unanimous decision that it found the experts who evaluated Gurney's mental state shortly after the killing more credible than the defense's experts.
