PORTLAND - The investigation continues in Portland as to why Shipyard Brewery was severely undercharged for its sewer bill over the last 15 years.
The Portland Press Herald is reporting that the mistake may have been caused by just one man. Spokeswoman Nicole Clegg told the Herald that a senior wastewater technician failed to set up a sewer account when the brewery installed a new water line for water disposal. Clegg believes that the technician, who passed away in 2007, was unfamiliar with brewery operations when the mistake was made in 1996.
There were a handful of other breweries operating in Portland in at that time, including Grittys, Gearys and Allagash.
