GOP Caucuses Underway

PORTLAND, Maine - The bulk of Maine's Republican caucus meetings are taking place this week.

In an effort to give Maine a higher profile during the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination, the Maine GOP encouraged local committees to hold their caucus meetings between February 4th and Feburary 11th.  Attendees will be asked to take part in a Presidential preference poll, and the results will be announced Saturday night at the Regency Hotel in Portland. 

To date, Ron Paul is the only one of the 4 remaining Presidential candidates to visit Maine. 

In 2008, former Massachusetts Governor and current GOP front-runner Mitt Romney won the caucus straw poll with 52 percent of the vote.
