Pingree Defends Travel Expenses

WASHINGTON, DC - 1st District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree says a report from AOL News that said she was the leader among everyone in Congress for expense vouchers submitted is misleading.

Speaking on the WGAN Morning News Friday, Pingree didn't deny she had a lot of vouchers, but says she's well down the list for actual expenses. She says many people in Congress submit vouchers for several trips at a time, while her staff submitted each item individually.

Pingree's opponent in November, Republican Dean Scontras, blamed the expenses on trips by her staff back to Maine to work on earmarks for pork barrel projects. He questioned why the Congresswoman and her staff didn't use technology to reduce the number of trips and make their carbon footprint smaller.
